The Old Rugged Cross
Romans 5
17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.
18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.:
Worship Suggestion:
The sound file is looped.
1. As the song plays the first time (During Verse 1) make remarks about the passion of Jesus Christ as a gift to the world. God the Father sent His only Son to atone for the sins of the world. The death and resurrection of Jesus brings us salvation. All that we need to do is to believe. Our faith is what God wants from us. He gives the gift of eternal life. He covers us with His grace and mercy, as we walk in The Way of the Cross until the last great day.
2. As the song continues, (During Verses 2 - 3) read the scripture form the book of John Chapter 19:1-30. Let the song end.
3. When the song restarts, sing Verses 1-3 together.
4. Prayer and Meditation.
On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.
Refrain:
So I'll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.
O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary. (Refrain)
In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine,
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me. (Refrain)
