Matthew 16
24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me,

let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it:

and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

Worship Suggestion:
The sound file is looped.
1. As the song plays the first time, (During Verse 1) make remarks emphasizing the great gift that Jesus gave to us, and the things He endured for us all. We have a right to eternal life because

of His precious gift. As we seek to live in the spirit of Christ, and by the power of the Holy Ghost, we must take up our cross and follow Him. The Lord will give us strength for the journey.
2. As the song continues, (During Verse 2-3) read the scripture from the book of Matthew 16:13-18, 24-28. Let the song end.
3. When the song restarts sing Verses 1 - 3 together.
4. Prayer and Meditation.

I take, O cross, thy shadow
for my abiding place;
I ask no other sunshine than
the sunshine of his face;
content to let the world go by,
to know no gain nor loss,
my sinful self my only shame,
my glory all the cross.

Beneath the Cross of Jesus

  • Beneath the Cross of Jesus #832:19

Beneath the cross of Jesus
I fain would take my stand,
the shadow of a mighty rock
within a weary land;
a home within the wilderness,
a rest upon the way,
from the burning of the noontide heat,
and the burden of the day.

Upon that cross of Jesus
mine eye at times can see
the very dying form of One
who suffered there for me;
and from my stricken heart with tears
two wonders I confess:
the wonders of redeeming love
and my unworthiness.
