Faith of Our Fathers
Hebrews 11
1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40 God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.
Worship Suggestion.
The sound file is looped.
1. As the song plays the first time, make remarks about the book of Hebrews which has come to be known as the Hall of Fame for the Faithful Figures
of the Bible. There is a list of saints, prophets, and faithful. Emphasize that the scripture declares that the list is too numerous to complete. The final verse of Hebrews 11 is important. The eternal rewards of the faithful shall not be made perfect until we finish the race.
2. As the song plays the second time, read the scripture from the book
of Hebrews 1:1-13, 32-40. Let the song play through until all scripture is complete. Let the song end.
3. When the song restarts, sing Verses 1 - 2 together.
4. Prayer and Meditation.
Faith of our fathers, living still,
In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword;
Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy
Whene’er we hear that glorious Word!
Refrain:
Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.
Our fathers, chained in prisons dark,
Were still in heart and conscience free;
How sweet would be their children’s fate,
If they, like them, could die for thee! (Refrain)
